Week Two, means a new video from the talented Sara Schwab and Kevin O'Brien in our continuing Big Room Session series. This week, Sara took the lead with her original song "Ireland". "Ireland" all started with a picking pattern on the guitar that Sara fell in love with that Kevin had come up with. She immediately went home and got to work on the song and the rest is history.
When asked about what this song meant to her, Sara told us that she wrote this song for herself as a songwriter. She said, "Ireland was a song I wrote for myself, often I found myself writing songs to benefit other people or to accommodate their desires for what a song should sound like." So she decided to focus on what she wanted and the meaning behind it.
For Sara, the song focuses on travelling to the place you've always wanted to go, the "dream destination", in this case for her, Ireland (we fully agree with this choice). The song's lyrics reflect the idea of travelling with a special person and coming to terms with the idea that they may not want to leave behind the home and world they have created. One has to overcome the idea of travelling alone and more importantly finding peace in the idea that one can love one's goals and aspirations more than just another person.
When asked what she hoped to her audience took away from this song, she elegantly put it, "I hope you can take away that it’s exciting to fall in love with your own loneliness, because sometimes the best company to have is none."
Wise wisdom from a talented young artist. Check out Ireland in the link below and make sure you stay tuned for Part three of the Big Room Session coming this Sunday.
